The cities of the future – Venice
Scarcity: The art of slowing down
Sergio Pascolo gave the introductory speech to the symposium ABITANDO VENEZIA, LIVING VENICE, VENEDIG BELEBEN, organised by the Foundation Bundesstiftung Baukultur in cooperation with the Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani (German Center for Venetian Studies). Venice is hereby taken as example in relation to the topics of the 14th Architectural Biennale; the symposium focuses on the consolidation of the topic “Urban spaces made liveable for the future” with a European perspective. This topic is discussed by the architects Clemens Kusch, Sergio Pascolo and Andreas Kipar, with particular focus on the relevant issues for the European historic city centres, including the economy of tourism, the trend of “event-ization”, globalisation and gentrification. Additionally, models of sustainable living and innovative concepts for infrastructure and mobility will be highlighted.
